2017 Opening Day Madness
MLB Baseball is Back!!
The birds are chirping, people are barbecuing and the boys of summer are back in action for 2017 opening day madness! People are filling up the stadiums to see their favorite teams and there is plenty of excitement flowing throughout the ballparks. The weather is up and down, and the beginning of the season is always rough on teams to try to get games in. The White Sox had to delay their opener against the Detroit Tigers disappointing many fans. But, with baseball back it’s the first indication that summer will soon be here. The 2017 season brings many potential milestones for the veterans who have been entertaining fans over the years. Superstar Albert Pujols has 591 home runs and is more than likely to hit his 600th home run sometime this year. With his 600th home run he’d be in an exclusive club joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Ken Griffey jr., Jim Thome, and Sammy Sosa. Another upcoming milestone is Adrian Beltre joining the 3,000 hit club. He has 2,942 hits starting off the season and is almost ensured to join the exclusive club this year. Pujols will also give his best shot at joining the 3,000 hit club in the 2017 season. He has some work to do however, he has 2,825 starting the season so it won’t be easy. Ichiru Suzuski will be passing some hall of famers such as Rod Carew, Rickey Henderson and Craig Biggio as long as he can get enough playing time. He has an outside chance of catching Super stars Alex Rodriguez and Dave Winfield. Suzuki enters the season with 3,030 hits despite missing a good portion of his career playing in Japan. These milestones are big because it could be what put these players over the hump to get in to the prestigious hall of fame. Teams will also be recognizing the great careers of their popular superstar players by retiring their numbers during the season. Big Papi from Boston will have his number 24 retired in June. The Yankees retire the great Derek Jeter’s number 2 in May joining an exclusive club of other Yankee greats. The Texas Rangers will retire the defensive catching wizard Ivan Rodriguez’s number 7 in August and the Seattle Mariners will be retiring hitting machine Edgar Martinez’s number 11 in August also. Many special events will be happening throughout the season and it will be exciting to see who can stay in the playoff races until the very end. Can the beloved Cubs win back to back Championships or will the Cleveland Indians, who were one win from being the champion last year, get over the top with their newly acquired superstar Edwin Encarnacion. Will the young Yankees join the race with their up and coming superstars. Or will the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers or Detroit Tigers dethrone the great clubs of the the Cubbies and Indians. Only time will tell, but one thins is for sure……It’s going to be one fantastic summer with crazy finishes and walk off homers once again!!
